Hi, its been a very busy week one way or another but have nearly finished the Watercolour painting of the
Two Ladies on the Beach (art class homework), so it should be ready for next week.
Today am showing 2 Pages from one of my
Art Journals where I like to experiment.
This page was created with charcoal, matt medium (to set the charcoal) and Black and White Acrylic Paints. Its the first time I have used a Palette Knife and have to tell you it was great fun and perfect for this piece. The original painting was by an artist called Armand S'eguin who worked with Gauguin. I haven't copied it exactly as wanted to put my own slant on it. Am thrilled with the way it turned out and its so touchable with some great textures. Am going to attempt to paint this on a 16 x 18 inch canvas, just need to buy an easel as my little table is not big enough.

This page was created with Watercolour Pencils and Acrylics and she reminds me of a lady from the Jane Austin era and not the way I planned to do her at all.................lol

I favor 1, but 2 has a lovely style! I love the use of the palette knife, adds so much!
What a great job you did since this was the first time you used a palette knife. I never have tried one but I hear it is very difficult to master.
Two very different feelings projected by your paintings - and that's a GOOD thing! The first one is all moody and mysterious - it's like she's peering from a cave. The second so elegant and serene, a little aloof. Really well done.

Love the texture it really shows up when you enlarge the picture!! Thanks for liking my painting and I have an easel but don't always use it - I tend to hold my painting in my lap propped against the table when I paint. I feel like I have more control.

Love them both! I too have a split personality when it comes to painting; I love love doing realism and am fairly good at it. But I also love impresionistic things where it looks like they just slapped paint around and made it look really good, but I'm no good at that sort. Thanks for stopping by, happy PPF!

Cool techniques. I need to practice with my palette knife, I tend to "cut" into the paste. A matter of wrist and force.

I like them both! Though, I imagine the first one is a mermaid hiding on the side of a craggy shore with the tumultuous sea behind her...heehee! I haven't tried using a palette knife yet...must get one :)
