Paint Party Friday

Hi,  its Paint Party Friday again, woo hoo.............sorry am late with this but I fell asleep for 3 hours, can you believe it, out like a light............

I am showing this painting much against my better judgement as its awful, just cannot get my head around it.  It is part of one of my Art Class Homework assignments and after this its going in my bad paintings file.  Yes I keep all my Homework Art good or bad, but in separate files, mad I know...........lol

To keep me sane have started on an old 12 x 16 inch canvas in acrylics, so far I have charcoaled the outlines and then painted it all over with gesso, this is going to be a much larger version of one of my art journal pages I showed a little while ago, except it will have some colour rather than black and white.  So although you cannot see a lot in this photo, hopefully by this time next week you will see how its going.

Am off now to check in on all the other artists at the Paint Party and will be visiting you all over the weekend.
Thanking you again for all your support and kindness.  Have a great weekend and take care, Hugs Annette x

Not bad, I think you just have to work to highlight the figures. Saludos

Hi Annette, I'm amazed that you don't like it, we are definitely our own worst critics, I think it's lovely. I'm sure when you go through your 'bad' folder later you will see differently too. Your new painting looks intriguing, I shall look forward to seeing it develop:0)
Have a wonderful weekend, hugs Gay xxx

The first painting reminds me of a van gogh so that is a good thing yes?

INeedToColor said...

Netty, I don't think it's awful. It just doesn't look like your style, so I'm not surprised that it doesn't speak positively to you! I'm not you though, so I might be wrong. I like it though! I can't wait to see what you do with your art journal piece! Happy PPF and thanks for stopping by my blog!

It looks quite nice to me. Glad you are at least keeping it!

Netty, I think you are over-critical with yourself. The painting isn't awful at all, and I'm not sure that it really deserves ending up in the "bad" folder.

I really love the first painting. So Van Goghish. Quite nice Netty. You are very talented. Happy PPF!

Love all the details in the field..well done! Happy PPF!

Wow, Nettie, I think it's wonderful. I always look forward to Fridays and seeing what you are painting. I am not familiar with the painting, or is this layout your own? Whichever, it is very good. Keep at it. I want it to make it into the "good" file.

I love this Anette. It so reminds me of my favorite artist..Van Gogh

Hi Netty, I think you just need to keep working through it's various stages. Can't wait to see both paintings when they are finished. Thanks for stopping by. Happy PPF. :-)

My mom had a painting in her bedroom of a single woman in a field that your piece reminds me of... so heartwarming to see your women working it.

Barbara Rosenzweig said...

I actually like your painting! The colors and composition are lovely and it doesn't have to look like a photo. What about it bothered you?

Have a great weekend,
Barb

Terrie said...

Netty - thanks again for the kind words on my efforts. As for your "awful" painting, I agree with the others, you're maybe a little too critical! The composition is very good and the use of blue/orange as the scheme works. The blues of their clothing might be a bit bright against the orange; maybe that's part of your concern? The clothes are almost the same color as the lake, so maybe if they were grayed down? Just a thought.....
Love the concept and I know you'll figure something out. Or not - sometimes it's not worth the effort to rework something that we don't love.........

Really like your painting, the colours are so vibrant. Have a great weekend. Hugs Anesha

aw, Netty, I like it. The colors are beautiful. Perhaps you can just put it aside for a while and revisit it another day with fresh eyes. :)

As to creating larger versions of your journal pages, this will be great! What a fun way to interact with your journaling. I wonder, will you try to make them exact recreations or allow for deviations? Either way, wonderful idea :)

So am giving up with it and moving on..... Thank you very much again, Annette x

I think the painting is good but I also understand when you don't like something, you just don't like it! I keep all my bad stuff, too. Sometimes I go back and try to fix them and other times I end up gessoing over them and starting over.

Hi Netty
Ive seen that first painting before somewhere? But art classes hmmm, I struggle with them! I started a class earlier this year but... actually I wrote a few posts about them! Blogger is rolling out a new dashboard and it sucks! They must have pulled my name out of a hat to try it on! Yuck poo! I'm sure I will get used to it eventually... x Julie

Wow, youy are very talented Netty! I can't paint a stitch! Think that's why I stamp cuz I can't draw or paint and want to be artisitic somehow.

The balance and arrangement on your gathering painting is perfect! It looks like it was painted by one of the old masters. I'm serious. Maybe you just need to work on some of the details but I love it.

Netty, I agree with the others: you are far too hard on yourself. I think the first painting is definitely a keeper! And I'm LOVING that second one you've started. So intrigued by that one. Can't wait to see where you go with it. :)

I think you did wonderfully considering there is so much going on in the picture--the actions and field and colors and strokes. Can't wait to see the next :)

I agree - I think you are being too hard on yourself... The top painting reminds me of a Van Gogh :)

I am very, very intrigued by your 2nd painting... I love the texture the gesso is creating!

It is always so fun to see the different styles you're working in :)
