Update on the Brayer and Thank you very much for all your great advice

Previously posted

Hi, I was lucky enough to win a 10 Pound Voucher from The Craft Barn re a question on the Brayer.  Would like to use it to buy another  Brayer, as after close examination of my old one I noticed a raised seam in it which of course affects the results.
The choice at The Craft Barn online shop is between a Speedball  and a Ranger mini Brayer.  The width isn't really that important to me but the smoothness of the brayer and no raised seams are.
If you have a brayer, would you recommend it and do you have a favourite?
I would very much appreciate your views and experiences.
Have a great weekend and take care, hugs Annette x

I have no knowledge of the Ranger brayer. I have a speedball brayer and it does pretty much what I want it to do although I certainly don't use it as much as I should. Perhaps you should check out the Lavinia stamps website as most of their backgrounds involve brayering and see if you can make your decision from that. GOOD LUCK and well done on your win

Hi Netty
Congrats!!! Lucky you!
I have never used the Ranger mini, I use a Speedball and love it! Mine is totally messed up as I use it for many things (other than brayering ink), which I have never been good at, but I have seen the girl from Clarity Stamps (where I got mine) use it to amazing effect and a new one is totally smooth for sure. Have a wonderful weekend!

I have a speedball too. It's currently gathering dust but it's very smooth! Congrats on your wee win! xx

Oh congrats on your win Netty :-)
I have both and the speedball is far superior in my opinion. Also you can get different rollers for it, I only have the soft rubber roller that came with mine but I love it.
Have fun brayering

Hi Annette, Well deserved win, yours was a fabulous question LOL :0) For me ( I have both) there is no contest! The Speedball is soft and forgiving and the Ranger is hard and inflexible, which is okay if you only need it to add texture(rubber bands or sellotape or wool come to mind)but the king is the speedball. Have you seen Barbara Gray? She is a total whiz with a brayer, on Create and Craft on Sundays? Well done with your win, Gay xxx

congrats on winning Annette :) I have both and use the speed ball mostly great with inks and the ranger one I use mostly with paints Big dfference is the speed ball is soft and it will give a little when squeezed and the ranger one is hard
Have fun and a great weekend

I have both the hard red Ranger kind of Brayer and the speedball, 2 Speedball's in fact. For colouring and image reverse stamping (Kiss Stamping) and all the arty effects you will see Barbara Gray or the Lavina Stamps Lady demonstrate the Speedball is vastly superior. The red one I use for example to lay my card over an inked stamp the brayer allows for a flat even pressure to transfer the stamp image to the card. It is also useful for smoothing air bubbles out of glued paper. Hope this helps and Good Luck XOXO Zoe

I use a speedball brayer - I do have the ranger mini one - can't remember why I thought I wanted a small one - so it's so far unused. speedball is pretty good for me.

My fave is the speedball, and I know that's what Michelle Zindorf uses for her brayering classes, as that's how I got mine. It has both the needed width and the smoothness. Hope that helps! Also, check out my blog - you are a winner!!! Hugs...

Hi Netty, congratulation on the win! As for the brayer, I have a Speedball and I think it's adequate. It has no seams but a few smudges of paint I didn't quite get off. I think if I tried really hard it would come off, but it works fine as it is.

Thanks for your good wishes concerning the hurricane. My son's wedding has now been moved to an inside event instead of a garden wedding. :- (

Congratulations on your win Netty and in common with everyone else I have a rather old, very messy and much loved Speedball and would never have anything else as it still does the job 10 years after I first bought it.
Have a great weekend.
Hugs, Fliss xx

Hi Annette. Happy you made a decision for a new brayer. Did you know that you should not rest the brayer on the rubber? Well, I didn't and if it sits there days at a time it distorts the surface. I now hang my brayers by the handle. I really love the cards and art by Michelle Zindorff. I refer to her as the Queen of Brayers. She always has new ideas and techniques.

congrats Netty! I just bought a Speedball brayer myself and am looking for ideas as to use it. seems like everyone likes the speedball so maybe I made the right choice, now just need to learn some techniques.

Thanks for the sweet note, Netty. We are indeed fortunate to survive without any damage to body or house. I think you will enjoy your Speedball brayer.
